¿What do we treat?
It is one of the most common illnesses. Patient usually suffers of constant nasal obstruction, whether sporadic or permanent, abundant nasal secretion, allergy, stinging sensation or headaches.
Nasal polyps are soft bodies that develop inside the nose and paranasal sinus. They appear when natural mucus, present in these places, grow excessively and fill with a clear and thick liquid. Polyps grow towards the interior of the nose, occupying the ceiling and walls of nostrils; while the size of the polyp increase, the chances of causing a blockade of nasal aerial via also increases.
In many cases nasal polyps are big enough to cause obstruction in drainage ways of paranasal sinus, it is easy for the patient to develop a sinusal infection. Other symptoms of polypoid presence are: nasal congestion, loss of smell in more or less measure, the loss of sense of taste in more or less measure, headache, pain in nasal area and signs of flu.
During sleep, the inspiratory pressure tends to collapse the upper aerial way, which is prevented by the action of the pharynx muscles. In this case, any factor tending to decrease or alter the action of such muscles, favors the reduction of the pharynx during inspiration producing the snoring.
At Centro Respira Libre, Dr. Sajidxa Mariño offers an effective solution with diode’s laser in office, by making a quick intervention, applying local anesthesia in patient’s palate.
Obstructive sleep apnea
It is a common illness when breathing is interrupted, causing a collapse of respiratory ways or their obstruction during sleep. After, breathing returns with snoring or snort; people who suffer it, snores loudly and are drowsy during the day, although not all those who snore have apnea.
Also referred as tuba or hearing tube this fundamental part of our ear is united with the nostrils and reach the eardrum, connecting the throat with middle ear, covered with a continuous layer of mucus from nostrils. Its objective is to balance the pressure of middle ear so the eardrum can transmit effectively the sonic waves through the ossicles and until the acoustic nerve. Also it is in charge of controlling the pressures of middle ear and to protect its structures before possible abrupt changes in the ear.
The Eustachian Tube can be covered up due to several causes, such as a common flu or other illnesses affecting the respiratory ways, a chronical infection of middle ear or rhinitis. Yawning or chewing can help to unblock the area.
When this zone of the ear is blocked, appears what is known as dysfunction of the Eustachian tube. The person feels a pressure inside the ear, sometimes accompanied by pain and sounds are heard dimmed. If this dysfunction is chronically suffered, feeling a plug in the ears or having “sounds” inside the ears are some of the symptoms that can aggravate with changes in altitude or pressure.
